Offering to the Gods, Performance, 2019.
The performance 'Offering to the Gods' is an artistic continuation of the 'Kathiban Mahila' project. It takes the form of a fertility ritual comprising multiple phases. Central to this performance is the exploration and utilization of secret written languages, including the covert communication employed by Palestinian mothers to connect with their incarcerated sons.
Moreover, the performance incorporates languages and symbols employed by Arab women to weave a tapestry of magical love spells, fertility invocations, and protective prayers rooted in Islamic traditions. Alongside these rituals and practices of religion and tradition, the performance invokes a profound connection with the divine, as both offerings are sought and bestowed.
Through 'Offering to the Gods,' the audience is transported into a realm where the powerful themes of fertility, motherhood, and the lingering impact of trauma on imagined feminine or maternal communities within a colonizer's context are explored.
